Biography of Alexis Littre
Alexis Littre - whose name is written without ´, studied in Montpellier and Paris, and for some 15 years was lecturer of anatomy in the latter town. He became licentiate of medicine in 1690, received his doctorate in 1691, and in 1699 became a member of the Académie des sciences.
Littre was a distinguished anatomist and an excellent surgeon. His zeal in anatomical investigations was such that in one year - 1684 - he sectioned more than 200 corpses at the Salpêtrière.
His numerous treatises were published in Histoire de l’Académie des sciences, avec les mémoires de mathematique et de physique. Littre published more than 30 papers.
