Biography of Charles Jules Alphonse Gayet
Charles Jules Alphonse Gayet studied at the École de médecine in Lyon where he became intern, and in 1858 became doctor of medicine in Paris. He was appointed Chirurgien-major at the Hôtel-Dieu in 1862, and in 1873 became Professeur suppléant of external pathology at the École de médecine, and in 1877 professor of ophthalmology in Lyon. He was an excellent operator with an astonishing dexterity, introducing several new methods. He published extensively on cataracts, a field in which he had a broad experience.
Gayet was killed in a car accident on July 23, 1904.
