Biography of René Fontaine

René Fontaine studied medicine in Strasbourg and became a pupil of René Leriche (1879-1955); with Leriche, he published (among other things) about the aetiology of peptic ulcers, the role of mucus, and about the pathology of blood vessels. In 1941, he succeeded Leriche in the chair of clinical surgery at the University of Strassbourg. Professor Fontaine retired in 1969.
