Biography of Arthur Simons
Arthur Simons
Simons studied at Berlin and received his doctorate from that university in 1903. Subsequently he worked at the Augusta Hospital with H. Liepmann-Wittenau, at the Charité and at Hermann Oppenheim’s (1858-1919) polyclinic. He was habilitated for neurology at Berlin in 1921, becoming ausserordentlicher professor in 1923. His main field off work was in clinical neurology.
In September, 1933, Simons was dismissed from his office as professor extraordinary at the Berlin Charité by the Nazis. On October 3, 1942, he was deported from Berlin to the concentration camp Vaivara near Reval/Estonia, where he was murdered (Gedenkbuch Berlins der jüdischen Opfer des Nationalsozialismus. Berlin 1995, page 1207).
