Biography of Alfred Stieda
Alfred Stieda attended the universities of Tübingen, Königsberg, and Geneva, obtaining his doctorate at Königsberg in 1891. He worked at the medical clinic in Rostock, at the women’s clinic in Giessen, and at the surgical clinic in Königsberg under Anton Freiherr von Eiselberg (1860-1939), Carl Garré (1857-1928), and Erich Lexer (1867-1937). He was habilitated for surgery at Königsberg in 1905, becoming titular professor 1907. He subsequently worked in Königsberg as head physician at the surgical department of the Red Cross Hospital Bertaheim.
Alfred Stieda was the son of the anatomist Christian Hermann Ludwig Stiel (1837-1918) and the brother of the surgeon Alexander Stieda (1875-1966).
