Biography of Vasilii Vasilovich Stroganoff
Vasilii Vasilovich Stroganoff studied at the St. Petersburg military-medical academy as well as in Berlin, obtaining his doctorate in 1882. From 1885 to 1926 he worked in the Petersburg state institute for obstetrics and gynaecology, from 1896 as professor extraordinary. From 1890 to 1912 also at the institute of the Grand Duchess Helena Pawlowna, where he was honorary professor 1900-1912.
Stroganoff was one of the founders of scientific obstetrics in Russia, publishing a large number of works in this field, particularly concerning bacteriology of the female genital canal, as well as on the pathogenesis and therapy of eclampsy.
