Biography of Edwin Homer Ellison
Edwin Homer Ellison studied medicine at the Ohio State University. Following graduation he undertook postgraduate studies in biochemistry before he began residency training in surgery. He married Molly Jean Scheeler (born 1916) in 1939. Ellison distinguished himself both in research and clinical work and, in 1967, he was appointed as professor and chairman of surgery, Marquette School of Medicine, Milwaukee, in 1967. He held this position when he committed suicide in 1970.
Ellison's most important contributions were in the field of gastrointestinal surgery. He was a prolific writer and was a member of the editorial board of several surgical journals.
