Biography of Rudolf Goebell
Rudolf Goebell attended the universities of Marburg and Kiel, obtaining his doctorate at Marburg in 1897. He served his internship and period as assistant at the Marburg surgical clinic, at the pathological institute in Kiel, and the surgical clinics in Greifswald and Kiel. In Kiel he worked with Heinrich Helferich (1851-1945). In 1901 he was habilitated at Kiel, where he succeeded F. Petersen as ausserordentlicher Professor and director of the surgical clinic in 1908.
Goebell's work concerns bladder and kidney surgery, as well as surgery of the intestines and the heart, and diagnosis and treatment of diaphragmatic hernia. Other fields were surgical treatment of asthma bronchialis, direct blood transfusion and acute spinal osteomyelitis.
