Biography of Julius Strasburger
Julius Strasburger studied in Bonn and Freiburg im Breisgau. He graduated at Bonn in 1894 and spent his internship and period as an assistant physician at the II medical clinic in Berlin under Carl Jakob Adolf Christian Gerhardt (1833-1902), as well as in the internal clinic in Bonn under Friedrich Schultze (1848-1934). Strasburger received the Venia legendi for internal medicine in 1899 and became professor extraordinary in Breslau in 1911. In 1914 he accepted an invitation to become professor of internal medicine at the University of Frankfurt am Main, where he was also head of the polyclinic and the institute for physical therapy.
Strasburger's special field of interest was the study of the pathology of digestion, the circulation, and physical therapy.
When the Nazis began their "racial cleansing" in 1933, Strasburger was at first not affected. In 1934, however, it was discovered that he had a Jewish grandfather. Heinrich Lampert, a spa physician in Bad Homburg who wanted to take over the institute for physical therapy, made sure this was used against him.
