Karl Gustav Theodor Simon

Karl Gustav Theodor Simon was born in Berlin and began his medical studies there in 1829. He continued his studies in Bonn from 1831, a student of Johannes Müller, returning to Berlin the following year. He received his medical doctorate at Berlin in 1833 and settled in that city. In 1842 he accepted a position as physician to the indigent. Two years later he was habilitated as Privatdozent of general pathology and therapy, but also taught dermatology.

In 1848 Simon became director of the department of skin diseases and syphilis at the Berlin Charité, where he was a teacher of repute and his lectures well attended. In 1850 he undertook a scientific journey to England and France. In 1853 he fell ill with progressive paralysis and died following several stays at sanatoriums in Potsdam, Neustadt-Eberswalde, and Leubus.

Simon left a large number of works, mostly concerning dermatology and venereal diseases. He also wrote a textbook of dermatology.
