Biography of Paul Hoffmann
17: Paul Hoffmann studied in Marburg, Berlin, and Leipzig, obtaining his doctorate at the latter university in 1909. He spent his period as an assistant in the physiological institutes in Berlin and Würzburg, and was habilitated for physiology at Würzburg, where he became professor extraordinary in 1917. From 1924 he held the chair of physiology at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau. Here he collaborated closely with Robert Wartenberg (1887-1956) who headed the nerve clinic until he fled Nazi Germany in 1935. Hoffman's work concerns the physiology of the nerves and muscles.
