Georg Grund

Georg Grund was the son of Friedrich Wilhelm Georg (1839-1903), director of the then leading german rail car factory in Breslau, and Marie née Wöhler. He received his Abitur from the Elisabeth-Gymnasium in Breslau and subsequently studies medicine at the universities of Heidelberg, München, Breslau and Berlin, receiving his doctorate in Heidelberg in 1903.

Grund did military service as a one-year volunteer in 1899 and 1903 and in 1913 was promoted to staff physician.

He worked as an assistant physician in the University clinic in Heidelberg from 1904 to 1908, and from 1908 to 1915 at the University Medical Clinic in Halle. He received the venia legendi for internal medicine in Halle in 1910, becoming titular professor in 1915, professor extraordinary in 1921, and ordinarius for internal medicine in 1922.

During World War I he served as regimental physician 1914/1915 and from 1916 to the end of the war he served in a military hospital in Halle. He was awarded the order of the Iron Cross II. Class. During World War II he was chief staff physician to the army as well as advisory internist to the Wehrkreis IV. He was awarded the War Cross I. Class with Swords – Kriegsverdienstkreuz 1. Klasse mit Schwertern. In 1943 he was relieved of his duties because of a heart disease.

Georg Grund married Friederike Stahl and they had three children, Marie (*1913), Ernst (*1916) and Gertrud (*1923).

His work concerns the fields of neurology and diseases of metabolism.
