Biography of Thomas Waterman Huntington
Huntington was born in Rockford, Illinois; attended eastern schools (University of Vermont at Burlington and Harvard Medical School); interned at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston; practiced with a cousin in Nevada, moved to Sacramento where he eventually became the chief surgeon of the Central Pacific Railroad Hospital; appointed professor of clinical surgery at the University of California, Dept. of Medicine; and during the time following the 1906 San Francisco earthquake was in charge of the Presidio General Hospital at San Francisco operating room. His interest was in tuberculosis. He was the father of Emily Huntington.
