Biography of Oskar Bail

Oskar Bail studied in Vienna, first natural sciences, then medicine. He received his doctorate in 1895 and entered the Institute of Hygiene under Max Rubner (1854-1932). In 1896 he became assistant to Ferdinand Adolph Theophil Hueppe (1852-1938) in Prague and was habilitated in that city in 1899 for hygiene, becoming extraordinary professor in 1904. In 1912 he succeeded Hueppe as ordinarius and director of the Institute of Hygiene at the German University in Prague. His work concerns questions of bacteriology and immunology, particularly bacteriophagy and the doctrine of aggression - founded by him - as well as racial hygiene.
