Biography of Alfred Saenger
Alfred Saenger studied in Heidelberg, Munich, Berlin, and Leipzig, obtaining his doctorate at the latter university in 1885. He worked in Hamburg as assistant at the St. Georg-Krankenhaus under Karl Gustav Haase (1840-) and at the Eppendorfer Krankenhaus under Karl Eisenlohr (1842-1896). From 1890 he attended to the neurological service at the polyclinic of the St. Georg Krankenhaus, alternatively at the ophthalmological department under Hermann Wilbrand (1851-1935). In 1911 he took over the clinical department of this institution. He became titular professor in 1914 and, in 1919, as extraordinarius, received an assignment to teach neurology at the Hamburg University.
