Biography of Georg Moritz Ebers

Georg Moritz Ebers was born in Berlin. He initially studied law and then hieroglyphs, and was professor of egyptology at the University of Leipzig from 1875 to 1889. He wrote numerous scientific books on topics from Old Egypt, as well as several novels.

The papyrus was discovered about 1862 and was purchased by Georg Ebers in Luxor, Thebes, in 1873.
