Biography of Henry Martyn Bannister
Henry Martyn Bannister received his doctorate in 1871 at the National Medical College (now George Washington University) in Washington. Following a scientific journey devoted to geological studies he settled in Chicago, where he published on both medical and geological topics. In 1874, with James Stewart Jewell (1837-1887) he founded the Quarterly Journal of Nervous and Mental Diseases. His death followed a sustained period of ailing health, long after he had retired from practice.
