Biography of Alphonse Kien
Alphonse Kien was the son of Joseph Kien and Marie Claire née Wagner. He studied medicine in Strasbourg where he obtained his doctorate in 1865. After being aractitioner for some years he began to work in a a hospital in 1889 as replacement for a colleague.
In 1900 Kien became leader of the department of chronically ill patients at the same hospital, the Hôpital civil of Strasbourg. In 1872 he married Marie Josephine Hérbin (1852-) with whom he had four children. His son George (1873-1846) was also a physician.
