Harry Bakwin, M.D. was professor of paediatrics at New York University. Together with his wife Ruth Bakwin, also professor of pediatrics at NYU, Harry Bakwin wrote a widely regarded medical text "Clinical Management of Behavior Disorders in Children." He died in 1973.
Shortly after the Bakwins were married in 1925, they began collecting art, specializing in the Impressionists and post-Impresionists. Their small but pioneering collection included works by Cezanne, Gauguin, Modigliani, Picasso, Matisse, Vlaminck as well as Van Gogh's "L'Arlesiene, Madame Ginoux" to be auctionned off at Christie's New York in May, 2006.
