Biography of Auguste Broca
Auguste Broca was the son of the famous pathologist, neurosurgeon, and anthropologist Pierre Paul Broca (1824-1880). He studied in Paris, where he became Interne in 1881, prosector 1885, and in 1890 Chirurgien des hôpitaux. In 1892 he became assistant at the Hôpital Trousseau under Odilon Marc Lannelongue (1840-1911), who influenced his choice to concentrate in paediatric surgery. He became professeur agrégé in 1895 and in 1913 was appointed full professor, first of operative surgery, then of topographical anatomy.
