Biography of Johan Christian Lund
Johan Christian Lund was the son of a merchant in Christianssand (now Kristiansand) on the south coast of Norway. He graduated in medicine in Christiania (Oslo) in 1857. He worked as a district physician on the Hvaler Islands in Oslofjorden, when he was appointed district physician i Setesdalen. Setesdalen, stretching northward from Kristiansand into a high mountain plateau, was then a rather backward and isolated valley. Lund stayed there for less than a year. He later practised in Mandal, Norway's southernmost city, and was physician to the Vigsnæs Copperwork on Karmøy. From 1972 he was district physician at the county hospital in Stange, Hedmark county. He resigned in 1905 and died in Kristiania (now Oslo) in 1906.
