Cornea with numerous central fine, wartlike excrescences on Descemet' membrane, which spread progressively toward periphery. In its early stages glints of a golden hue are visible under indirect light on the posterior surface of the cornea or by black spheres in the endothelial cells. In advanced stages, the non-reflecting black guttae cover the endothelium in the axial area. Seen in elderly persons. A form of inheritable corneal dystrophy.
