Polyaetiological syndrome with focal infections, malign tumours and allergic processes. There are itching skin eruptions occurring in attacks of symmetrically distributed vesicles, pustules or bullae, usually found on the buttocks, shoulders, elbows, and knees, and sometimes scalp, face, and ears. Prevalent in males (2:1), onset usually between 20 to 55 years of age; occasionally, in child over 5 year of age.
First described in 1880 by the English dermatologist William Tilbury Fox (1836-1879). Further descriptions in 1884 by Duhring and in 1888 by Brocq.
