Stein-Leventhal syndrome
Related people
A condition characterized by multiple ovarian cysts, obesity, hirsutism, menstrual abnormities, amenorrhoea or oligomenorrhoea, infertility and sometimes hyperprolactinaemia and virilization. Onset after puberty or in late teenage years. Autosomal dominant inheritance reported in some families. In familial form, males abnormally hairy.
In 1928 the Russian gynaecologist S. K. Lesnoy described cystic ovaries, but not the whole syndrome.
