The association of gastrointestinal bleeding and calcific aortic stenosis.
We received this comment from Jacob de Wolf: In recent times it has been elucidated that the bleeding is due to acquired Von Willebrand disease type 2a caused by high shear stress around the stenotic aortic valve, and that the bleeding and clotting abnormality ceases upon replacement of the aortic valve.
