Indentation tonometer, an instrument for measuring the intraocular pressure. The indentation tonometer measures the amount of corneal indentation that occurs when a given weight is placed on the cornea. The result is inversely proportional to the intraocular pressure and the actual pressure must be obtained from a table of values.

Schiøtz demonstrated his tonometer in The Norwegian Medical Society (Det norske medicinske Selskab) in 1905. It was soon used world wide and for the next half century the Schiøtz was generally accepted as a reliable means of measuring intraocular pressure.
