Salzmann's nodular corneal dystrophy

Nodular dystrophy of the cornea with onset at any age in persons with corneal disease. It is characterised by progressive hypertrophic degeneration of the epithelial layer of the cornea, the Bowman membrane, and the outer portion of the corneae. The nodules are of a solid opaque material that stands out from the surface of the cornea. Other features are vision impairment and ocular pain. It is a complication of phlyctenular keratitis or trachoma. More frequently seen in women.
