Brenner's tumour

An ovarian tumour of follicular origin, usually occurring in elderly women. It is almost always a unilateral fibroepithelioma of the ovary, without known endocrine activity. The tumours are characterized by the presence of islands of stratified epithelial cells. Lumina in some foci may be filled with a globular mass resembling degeneration ova in follicles undergoing atresia. It is almost always benign. Aetiology unknown.
