Disease resulting from progressive destruction of the adrenal gland with deficiency in the secretion of adreno-cortical hormones. List of characteristic marks include progressive anaemia, bronze skin pigmentation, severe weakness, hypotension, nausea, vomiting, anorexia, weight loss, and sometimes hypoglycaemia. Ocular signs include blepharoptosis, karatoconjunctivitis, photophobia, corneal ulcers, keratitis cataracts and papilledema. Often associated with emotional disorders. Now usually resulting from autoimmunisation, while tuberculosis was earlier the common cause.
