Biography of Tom Bentley Throckmorton

Tom Bentley Throckmorton attended the Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, receiving his doctorate in 1909. He was successively house physician at the Maplewood Sanatorium, resident physician at the Philadelphia Orthopaedic Hospital as well as at the Infirmary for Nervous diseases in Philadelphia, and assistant physician at the Cheroku State Hospital for the insane.

He was for a period lecturer in clinical neurology in Des Moines, Iowa, where he settled. He was the governor of Iowa from 1927 to 1936.

According to his granddaughter, Toni Throckmorton Walling, "he was very busy with his medical practice, a wonderful wife, and 4 sons."

Throckmorton also gave a simple method for recognizing motor paralysis of the lower extremities, reported in the Journal of the American Medical Association, Chicago, 1923, 80: 1058.
